DOBIERO reminds you about apps that may help where you are: at a fuel station, in a shopping centre, at a motorway service area (MOP), at selected gyms. The app itself does not have the permission Android requires to connect to the internet. That does not mean your phone does not use the network at all: your phone’s location services detect that you are nearby, and they may need a connection. Below we describe what the app does, what it does not do and how to check it yourself. This guide covers version 0.1.0 (3) from Google Play.
What DOBIERO does
- When your phone reports that you may be near a supported place, DOBIERO briefly checks your location and compares it with the list of places stored in the app.
- It shows a list of apps that may help: on the home screen, in the widget (if you add it) and, when it makes sense, in a notification.
- Matching places and deciding whether to remind you happen on your phone, based on data stored in the app.
- Another app or the Google Play Store opens only when you tap.
What DOBIERO does not do
- It has no account or login.
- It does not connect to its own server. It contains no ready-made software kits (SDKs) for advertising, analytics or crash reports.
- It does not keep a log of coordinates or routes and does not store a visit history.
- It does not send your precise location or the list of your apps. It does not even have the internet permission.
- It does not browse all the apps on your phone. It checks only whether a specific app from a closed list built into DOBIERO is installed, to show “Otwórz” (open) or “Pobierz” (download). It does not store that result, and the order of the list does not depend on it.
- Nobody pays for a place on the list.
Honestly: where the limits are
- Your phone’s location service from Google (Google Play services) detects that you may be nearby. It is a separate system service that works according to your phone’s settings and Google’s rules. DOBIERO registers areas to watch in it, including one extra area around the last accepted reading (it is not a place from the list; when you leave it, the app refreshes the list of watched places).
- According to Google’s documentation, on most phones this service uses network location, which needs a data connection. Without a stable connection a reminder may not appear. That is why we do not promise reminders without a network.
- The notification and the widget are stored by the Android system, like any other notification.
- When you tap “Pobierz”, the app’s page in the Google Play Store opens, and the store learns which app you want to look at. The app or store that opens may need the internet.
- The “Data safety” card on Google Play is our declaration. The store itself notes that the developer provided this information. That is why the last check below (check 3) does not require trusting us; the first two show your phone’s settings and our declaration.
How to check it yourself
Below are three ways, from the simplest. The first takes a minute. The last is for people who know Android developer tools, needs a computer and is the only one that does not depend on our declarations.
Check 1: your phone’s settings
The steps below lead to the app’s permissions screen. It shows the permissions the app needs your consent for. Android grants internet access automatically at installation, so on most phones you will not see it here for any app. Its absence from this list therefore proves nothing. Check 3 is for that. Menu names can differ from phone to phone.
- Open Settings, then Apps.
- Choose DOBIERO. If you do not see it, choose “See all apps”.
- Choose Permissions. You will see location and, on Android 13 and newer, also notifications. You can withdraw them here at any time.
Check 2: the “Data safety” card
The DOBIERO page on Google Play has a “Data safety” section (the Polish page says “Bezpieczeństwo danych”). As of 3 November 2026 it says (in Polish): “Deweloper informuje, że ta aplikacja nie zbiera ani nie udostępnia danych użytkownika”, meaning the developer states that the app does not collect or share user data. This is the publisher’s declaration, not a Google audit.
Check 3: for advanced users (adb)
With USB debugging turned on and your phone connected, type this command on your computer:
adb shell "dumpsys package com.dobiero.app | grep -iE 'versionCode|permission'"
Under “requested permissions” you will see the location permissions (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION), notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS), the foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION) and starting after a reboot (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED). android.permission.INTERNET should not be there. You will also see com.dobiero.app.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION. A library used by the app adds this permission automatically. It has the “signature” protection level: Android grants it only to apps signed with the same certificate. It does not give access to the internet. The output also contains section headings and other lines with that word; The output must contain versionCode=3 and the “requested permissions” section. Only then check that android.permission.INTERNET is not there. An empty output confirms nothing. We confirmed the absence of this permission in the release file of 0.1.0 (3), and on 3 November 2026 also with this command on a Samsung phone with version 0.1.0 (3) installed from Google Play: the output shows versionCode=3 and the “requested permissions” section, and android.permission.INTERNET does not appear. If you see anything different, write to us. When you are done, turn USB debugging off.
Where DOBIERO gets data about places
- The list of places is built into the app. DOBIERO does not download it from the internet.
- New data arrives with an app update from Google Play. The list does not change between updates.
- We prepare and check the list of places automatically.
- Main sources: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL 1.0 licence) and GDDKiA (Poland’s national road administration). The full, current list is in the app (Settings) and on the Data and licences page.
How to delete data
- In the app: the settings icon in the top right corner → “Usuń dane lokalne” (delete local data) → “Usuń dane” (delete data). DOBIERO then also removes the areas it registered in Google’s location service, if that service is available. Details: How to mute suggestions or delete local data.
- You can withdraw the location and notification permissions in your phone’s settings (Background location and notifications on Android).
- When you uninstall, Android removes the files the app saved in its own space on the phone. Google’s documentation adds that after a reinstall the app has to register its areas in the location service again.
